There are high chances for snowfall  on high passes in the early months of the year. During the monsoon season, the Kangra and Dhauladhar ranges are hit by rain, but the weather is warm and sunny (12-20 °C) during the day, while the night temperatures can be in the minus (-2 to 6 °C). Trekkers can expect good comfortable weather in September and October, with little snowfall. With the start of October, daytime temperatures are staying around 12-18 °C, but overnight temperatures drop to (- 6) to 4 °C.

Preparation before the Trek

Prior to the Trek, there is some preparation to be made.

The trek ranges in difficulty from moderate to severe. Except for a few spots, the trek to Ilaqa pass is rather straightforward. It is recommended that you begin exercising at least two weeks before the journey date in order to develop your stamina, endurance, and muscle strength. Leg and thigh exercises are essential because your legs are always in use during traveling. If the legs are gone, it’s game over.

This hike does not require any special permits or forest permits. Carry a photo ID with you to show at the Galu Devi temple checkpoint. Liquor is not permitted to be transported, so don’t bring any.
